American classical guitarist Mohit Dubey was born in 1996 and began studying the classical guitar at the New Mexico School for the Arts at age 14. Since then, he has given concerts around the globe and released his debut album ‘Fairuz’ to critical acclaim.
Dubey holds both a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and a Bachelor of Music from Oberlin College and Conservatory where he studied with Stephen Aron, as well as a Master’s degree from the University of Alicante, Spain. During his time in Spain, Dubey studied with musical luminaries such as David Russel, Alvaro Pierri, Manuel Barrueco, Pepe Romero, and Jakob Lindberg among others.
Over the course of his five years of study, Dubey has traveled around the world to give concerts and teach music. In January 2016, he was selected to give concerts and teach at schools in Jordan as part of a U.S. Embassy sponsored cultural exchange program. The following year, Dubey was awarded a prestigious Shansi Award to travel to his father’s home country of India where he taught and performed in Lucknow, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. While in India, Dubey also studied carnatic music and solkattu at the Brahdvanni Institute in Chennai, which broadened his musical and compositional vision. During the course of his Master’s studies in 2019, Dubey gave concerts throughout the Valencian province and was also awarded a grant from the U.S. Embassy to represent the United States at the GuitarArt festival in Belgrade, Serbia.
Through all of his travels, Dubey has developed a passion for creating cross-cultural imaginative projects involving the guitar. As a versatile artist with diverse interests, Dubey has arranged works for the guitar spanning from Ghanaian gyil music, to jazz, to songs of famed Lebanese singer ‘Fairuz’. More recently, he developed a program combining his passions for physics and music including visuals made in collaboration with his college advisor Dr. Rob Owen. His most recent projects include a guitar duo album with Brian King featuring original arrangements and an upcoming solo album of guitar works dedicated to women, also featuring original compositions and arrangements.
Dubey plays a guitar made by American luthier Michael Thames.
